Bhutan is a landlocked South Asian country. Covering an area of around 46,500 square kilometers and has population of 650,000 with seventy five percent of the population living on cultivation and livestock rearing.
Bhutan's recently achieved its long time goal of Universal Primary Education. The gross enrolment rate in primary education was 106% in 2007. There is near gender equality (93%).
New Year in Bhutan is one of the major festivals of the country. Like its neighbor, India Bhutanese people also welcome New Year with open hands. The English New year and the local New Year are celebrated with equal grandeur.
